In your other post you said that you have a blown head gasket , That would really cause a no heat problem ,and may be part of your high idle .
If it is leaking or burning antifreeze ,it may be really low and will cause no heat also , How are you going to drive that car to WI. to the Festiva meet ?

if it's pretty cold out and i start my car it idles at around 1200 rpm's for a little bit then once somewhat warmed up it drops back down to around the normal 400 rpm's. i think it's a type of efi choke. it sounds like you have other problems like packrat said.

No it is not burning or leaking antifreeze. the antifreeze is just really really dirty. the blown headgasket is letting oil into the antifreeze. i've never had that happen before. all the other headgasket problems ive ran into on other vehicles kept getting antifreeze in the oil. but the oil in my festiva is clean. my festiva will definately make it to the meet. its been my daily driver since i got it and i have had no serious problems.

If it is leaking oil into the coolant system , then you are on a collision course to have more repairs and a bigger cost to fix.
If you have oil in the coolant then it is no wonder you are having a no heat issue , it is prolly sludged up in radiator, heater core .

Do what you want , but if it is doing that I would fix it right now ,before it gets worse .
