  • Help get a Festiva back on the road??

Hello all, I just recieved a 1988 Festiva LX for helping one of my friends work on his car. It currently has 227000 miles on it. So here is the story. Over the last couple of months the car has slowly been losing power and about a month ago it just gave up. This thing is in great condition and is fully loaded, and man would I love to get some good gas mileage. Well the owner told me that when it first died, he replaced the timing belt and tried to start it and it just turned over. He then turned the distributor all the way to the right and it started. When he turned it off it wouldnt start again until he turned the distributor all the way to the left. After he turned it off it wouldnt start at all. We tried the distributor thing again and it didnt start but the hoses to the distributor are unplugged. I decided to take the compression on it. I got around 95 psi on all four cylinders and decided that this little motor is dead (note that this motor has been sitting for a month, and I didn't put any oil in the cylinders even though I should have). Perhaps if I got it all timed again and hooked up all the hoses maybe I could get it to start. Well I dont know, do you guys think it is time for a new motor? That is alot of miles. I don't want any performance motor to put in it, I just want a 1.3 because it is going to be my daily driver. Well, if you all say to I will start looking for a motor this week, and since it is going to be hard to find a low mileage festiva in the junkyard, would the aspire motor be a direct drop in? Like one from the mid 90's? Will my carb intake bolt up to it? Will everything bolt straight to it? If not, what type of fabrication will I be looking at in going from fuel injection to carby? Thank you all for your help.

Why don't you hook everything up properly and get it running, you might have a lot of life there.

With proper oil changes these engines will go about 250k miles or more.
I got 265k out of my first engine.

Something doesn't sound right with the ignition, maybe he didn't get the timing belt back on right.
Check to see if you are getting spark at the plugs.
That would be the first thing to check.

Yes the Aspire engine is the same and yes you can take the EFI manifold off and put your carb/manifold on (thats what I did).
You could also put in a carbed B6 (1.6L). It will bolt right in and you pick up about 20hp.
