  • gear ratios

got a couple questions. A while back there was a post with the trannie ratios and final drive ratios but I am not finding it. Also I'd like to know if there is a difference between manual and auto trannie final drives. And is it possible to change the speedo drive gear if I was to install 14" Mazda wheels on my 93 Festiva? Thanks. Mike

I did those trans ratio's for the g25mr trans that some of us have upgraded to.

the speedo drive gear wont need to be touched if you get 195/45r14's
I got sojme toyo T1R proxes
    They are cheap here:

Carl, the object of changing to a larger wheel is to drop the engine RPM in an attempt to increase MPG. Maybe I should just try a larger tire size. A friend just bought a 93 Festiva with an automatic. No tach, but he claims it is wound a lot tighter at 75 MPH than his other manual Festiva at 75. I am going to loan him a TinyTach so he can check it out. I have a tach in my 93 manual, we will compare notes. Any idea where I can get the gear ratios for the trannie? Thanks. Mike

I don't know if the gear in the transmission will interchange.
But it would be a pain to change since its on the differential.

        Manual
        1st 3.454
        2nd 1.944
        3rd 1.275
        4th 0.881
        5th 0.692 (5 speed only)
        rev 3.583
        axel 3.777
        Speedometer gear ratio 0.91

        Automatic
        1st 2.841
        2nd 1.541
        3rd 1.000
        rev 2.400
        axel 3.227
        Speedometer gear ratio 0.88

OH yeah I could tell you the auto's aren't geared for the higher speeds. I came home yesterday from the wis meet in the GF's auto festy.

The 5 speeds are much better. It looks like the 4 speed & auto's are just about the same though. The double overdrive helps.
