Idle

'93 festy EFI 5 speed, i am having another problem now when i put my festiva in gear it idles up about 400 rpm, but when i put it in neutral it comes back down, it will do this when u put it in any gear, any thoughts?
There is a sensor on the tranny if i unplug it it will idle up the same speed and then it makes no difference what gear i put it in it will not idle up, what is this sensor for? I have it unplugged and i slowed the idle back down.

The switch is called a park/neutral switch , it went bad so i just left it unplugged and slowed the idle back down.

Wow , thats weird , I did not know that existed on a 5 speed .

I mean the park/nuetral switch , I thought that would only be on a automatic

Thats what the book says it is, it shows it on the 5 speed and the auto, i just can not understand why a 5 speed needs this.

I don't think it needs it, but it has it anyway... I had the same problem a while back... turns out that switch is the same on some of the other old mazdas (I think I pulled a replacement off a mid 80s 323)
