  • no spark

    i got a 93 engine & no spark

iv done replaced the plugs, wires, cap & rotor and still no spark

    do i need the condensor?

i know in some cars it only suppresses the noise and im not sure whether to hook it up or not

thats all i can think of beside the coil

    any other ideas?

i may be wrong but it should not have a condensor because it is an electronic ignition. my old cars from the 60s through 70s had a condensor because they had points in the ignition.

could be the ignition module which is integral with the distributor, there are simple tests in the haynes manual that will tell you in a few minutes what you need. good luck

Some old Fords had an extra Cap from the external Voltage Regulator
to ground, but not Altenators with internal regulators

Starter turns, but no fire. Can you get it going by push start?

I can't say for sure but I've had two ignition control modules go bad in my Festiva. I think that their ignition systems are pretty wimpy. They cost over a hundred bucks. I would like to find a cheap MSD ignition box on Ebay and replace the whole shootin' match. Would probably improve mileage and power too.

Did you resolve the problem? What worked?

if the coil checks out, i'd suspect the ignition control module. this is seperate from the dist on the 90-93 models and can be checked and replaced easily. buy or borrow a haynes manual for a detailed procedure on checking and replacing. this piece controls the collapsing of the magnetic field in the coil which gives u the high voltage spark. if it is bad, anew one is expensive but since the same module was used on early 90s 323s and late 80s tracers (and festivas), u could probably pocket at least one at the j.y.
