  • gas gauge???Milage per tank????

    Hey,
    I have a 92 Festiva automatic.

My gas gauge works fine when car is full of gas until it hits half.

After that it goes to the E and stays there, mooves up and down when at a slope stoped or going up hill.

Other then that when its half and below it stays on the E

Anybody know how to fix this??

And if not how much miles shoudl i get on a tank city/highway

I wouldn't go more than 300 miles between fill ups, even though tecnically you have a 10 gallon tank, and getting the minimum 40mpg should be 400 files, you never want to get caught running out :-)

The gauge could be a couple things. Most likely its the float that is attatched ot the fuel pump inside your tank. The accesss panel is underneith the rear seat under the carpet, look slike a shiny square, with wires going into it.

Its pretty strait forward how to get the fuel pump out, but I don't think its really worth the time, use the tripometer :-)

Please post only once for help . I deleted the other thread .
You do not need to post the same question in different forums .

You may have a bad sending unit in the tank , The float may actually be catching on something inside the tank . You will prolly need a sender .

When I am on the highway I try to stop for gas after 350 miles .

If you get 40 mpg and it has a 9.9 gal tank then I would not go much more than 396 miles .

Go to the wreckers and find a Festiva , and get the sending unit from inside the tank .

The tank itself has nothing to do with the gauge not working

Sending unit in tank. I had the same problem on two 88 Festivas.
Sending unit was $75 from Ford for an 88 carbed Festiva.
Not sure how much an EFI on would cost.
