  • Help! Broken key and I need to start it quick!

Hey everybody! my brother just bought a '95 two-door Aspire! Awesome right? it's in OK condition with 109,000 for $440. We just put in new plugs, new filter, and changed the oil. PROBLEM: The key had broken off and the last owner had glued it into the ignition. Well it was working OK like that, but you had to make sure the key was rocked back or the battery ends up dead. My brother took some needle nose pliers and the half of the key came out....Problem, the other half stayed in and now we can't get the car to start!!!! HELP! It is stuck in his garage, the steering is locked, and we need to get this going. I am talking, drilling it out, hotwire, any other ideas! I need help ASAP....

    Thanks,

have you tried a tiny drop of super glue on the half you've gotten out , to try to fish the last half out?

getting the lock cylinder assembly off is easy except for the air bag issues

how bout if you take off the steering column. On the other side of the ignition switch back of the key side there will be a yellowish plastic piece attached to it with one screw. Un screw that and use a screwdriver to start the car...no hot wiring needed.

Even if you unscrew the ignition switch you have too break the steering lock if you want to move the car.

You will be money and time ahead to have a locksmith come to you. He will fix the whole problem and you will have a new key. Even if it costs you $100 you will be money and time ahead.

It doesn't cost that much when you are near a big city, it only takes them minutes.

He found a used igntion assembly at a junkyard with key for $35. The locksmith is putting it all on, and rekeying it for $50! NOT BAD! And my brother kind of lives in the sticks in Small town utah!
