A big thing regarding any electrical component that gets wet is make sure EVERYTHING is completely dry before running juice to it.

It's a perfect excuse for an Escort carb upgrade. Or, maybe a twin carb upgrade? No ECA.

Does the expression "It seemed like a good idea at the time" enter into the story?

Anyway, good luck. I'm sure it's fixable, but prob with a lot of work.

Since its an 88 and carbed you won't have an ECU to worry about.
              Interior:
Open the doors and put a fan blowing through it for a couple of days.
Got to get the seat and most importantly the under dash area dry.
              Engine:
1 Buy a case or two of oil.
              2 remove the spark plugs
remove distributor, take off cap set the distributor in front of a fan till completely dry (couple of days)
              remove air fillter
              3 drain oil
              replace oil filter
4 overfill with new oil and let it set for a few mins.
              5 drain oil
6 if it looks milky then you still have some water in your engine
7 repeat steps 3 - 6 until oil look like it did when you poured it in
8 fill with oil and turn the engine over with the plugs out
              9 drain oil
10 if it looks milky repeat steps 8 - 9 until oil look like it did when you poured it in.
              11 replace oil fillter
(remember, a case of oil is a LOT cheaper the replacing the engine)
              Transmission:
              1 drain
              2 fill
              3 drive (not to far)
              4 repeat 1 - 3 till fuild looks new
uhm if its factory carb then yes it has an ecu just like the efi ones

Yay, they need to follow up on things like this.

Someone else probably owns the Festy now .... Not knowing it's been in a lake.
