  • Electrical glitch with instrument cluster

    Hello all,

My instrument cluster has a mind of its own

Now that it's cold out the lights don't come on in the instrument cluster until it's warmed up quite a bit. If it's really cold even the lights on buzzer comes on as if the keys are out of the ignition. Another quirk is that the right signal light in the cluster flashes but the left side doesn't.

Once it's warmed up everything works great.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Ian

I had that same problem with my old Festiva, if I recall there was a thread somewhere on this and it was fairly common.

My old cluster did that before I swapped the tach cluster in .

When I pulled it I cleaned all the terminals with a small brass brush.

Turn signals on the dash would not light , and the fuel and temp gauge would not come up at all , until warmed up good .

It has been Fine since the cleaning /swap.

i've never heard of that, the only my cluster is doing when cold is making a scratching sound with the speed of the car, so i'm assuming speedo cable

Just squirt some graphite down the cable and that will stop. I used graphite door lock lubricate.
