  • here are the symtoms.... your guess?

    a 93 festiva.

on start up it has a miss.... a bad one.

once its warmed up, the miss dissapears and it runs normally.

    whats your best guess?

Whats the weather like? My 1st and 2nd festivas were real bad in the rain/wet weather. The plug wires and cap would get moisture in them and miss till the engine warmed up and the water evaporated. I used to carry WD-40 and spray them down to displace the water if I had trouble starting the car.

      rainy... damp... cold.

once I get it to work on next week I will be able to tinker with it... i'm looking for a "common fetiva trait" to start on if it has one (like you say).

dont they make some kinda special grease you smear on your plugs to keep the dampness out of them?

That's your probem. Buy good wires and a new cap and rotor and see if the problem goes away.

just had to do the same for Uncle Fester. got to the point he wouldn't even start on rainy days. I guess 7 year old dry-rotted plug wires aren't that good?

no I think 7 yrs is a bit past a plug wires life span.

thanks for the input... I was worried it was maybe an intake crack or something really expensive.

            I hate expensive.

Had the same problem with poor starting in damp condtions. New distributor cap and spark plug leads cured it.

Look to see if your distributor cap is cracked.

Water can get in there and wreak havoc.

I had to replace mine because of that.
