  • Can I remove my AC Compressor?

I have a 93 daily driver and the AC doesn't work so I want to remove the compressor.

    Will this cause any problems?

Will I get a boost in mileage?

I also have to change my water pump, is it going to be difficult?

    Thanks

I have an AC on my aspire which I most likely wont use... I'm wondering if removing the belt will help the mpgs too.
    good question.

When the A/C is in the off position only the pulley (and a few other things) are turning. You are not compressing anything. Removing it will help a bit, it does take a small amount of power to turn the pulley and extra belt.

If you remove it you'd lose like 20 lbs. Not much but if you add up little things like that it does make a difference. You might want to rip the whole thing out while you're at it - not hard - I wrote an article on it.

I already removed the engine bay parts but wouldn't mind removing the rest.

Can you direct me to the article?
