speedo frozen?

I live in Idaho and recently in the morning (after it has been sitting all night) that when I start to drive, my speedometer cable makes a clicking noise followed by it jumping around or telling me a wrong speed (depends on how cold it really is).

Does this mean I need to replace my speedo cable or is this just a normal thing?

Mine for the first time started making noise when it went to -7 WC = 3 above here .
Graphite lube ,it works for key locks and speedo cables .

is that like WD-40? I sprayed some wd-40 in my ignition but I have not tried the speedo

They are nothing alike .
WD-40 may cure it for a couple of days , it's too light of a oil.
Graphite is a special lube for applications like that .

One of the names for it I believe is lock ease .
