cant get fluid in trany

for some reason when i try to add the trany fruid to my capri trany it will not drain it just over flows... and i know it is empty because i drained itwhen i did the swap. i am trying to fill it through the speedo inlet on the trans. is there anything special i have to do to get the fuid to fill the trany?

this is pretty much all i need to do to my b6t swaped festy and then i can take it for a test drive and see what bugs i need to work out.

Did you pull the speedo gear out?

If you pulled the speedo cable it should fill up...wierd problem. Good luck with it.

yeah i have pulled the cable out. and still when i go to add the fluid it does nothing but over flow. is ther anyhting else that has to be removed from the hole to fill it?

Like Oxbrain said, you have to pull the whole speedo gear out of the transmission. You can't just unscrew the speedo cable from the transmission. There should be one bolt through a flange on the speedo gear that you have to remove before you can pull the speedo gear out of the transmission. It will probably be hard to pull out, too. Don't pry under the little tab that had the bolt in it or you will break the tab off. Wrap a small piece of rag (or tape) around the speedo cable threads and grip it with a pair of slip joint pliers and pull up.

ok where is this bolt located inside the gear itself or on the out side of the trany... i know i havent removed that yet. never had this trouble before... so if you could let me know ecactly where the bolt is for the gear i should have a problem.

It is right next to where the cable screws on.
I think its an 8mm but it could be a 10mm.

10mm wrench look at the drive unit an you won't miss it.

ok ill have to check tomarrow when i go out to work on it... it will be my luck for one reason by act of god its not there for some reason or another.. i just know my luck and that would be it.

ok im going to have to take a look.. i remember at one point or anther removing that but that was 6 months ago when i first got the car.. so i prob but it back in .. but didnt bolt it back down so all i should have to do is pull it back out.. if its not lost..................
