  • EFI idle at startup

I have a '91/5-speed/EFI/1.3L that upon startup (cold, w/o touching the throttle) races to 2500-3000rpm (a guess), but way too fast! After about 1 minute the idle speed lowers to about 1000rpm until warm, then drops to 680rpm.

Blipping the throttle when it's racing does nothing to lower the revs.

Any ideas? It's done this ever since my ownership of about 3 months.

ps..new: plugs/wires/cap/rotor/air filter/all belts 'n hoses. The timing is correct as well.

    Thanks!

Blipping the throttle on a EFI car ..when cold will not kick it down like a carb'd car .

It sounds normal to me, what you have going on there .
High idle cold ,and then comes down as it warms .

Thanks for the reply! I'm wondering if there is a dashpot/solenoid that holds the throttle open that could be adjusted?? This thing lights off instantly, probably w/o any oil pressure to speak of, and screams..I do use synthetic lubes/oils, but still..

My '91 does the exact same thing. It's probably normal, and the idle goes down after a few minutes.

Hmmm, okay. Thanks for the input. She's only got 180,000 on the clock and I'd kinda like keep puttin' um on.

A Stuck/sticky IAC valve can mess up your idle
