  • real wheel hopping problem

we have a 92 festi and noticed that the rear end of the car will hop over quick if i go over a few small bumps on the road. its really bad on the highway but does in town to.

is this a common problem or do the shocks have to be replaced?

Or is there something else going on?

    tx in advance

Yep, time for some new rear struts. Pretty common. I'm not sure why, but the front struts tend to last much longer than the rear ones.

Yep , very annoying ,esp when there are manhole covers every 50 feet and the same set of tires keep hitting them , It feels like the car jumps over about 6 inches on every hit .

ouch, i found them in manual and they are struts. this probably means that i will have to have a shop do it because you have to compress the sping.

does anyone have a home remedy for installing these rear struts?

only on the front because it comes out as a compressed unit, the top bolt on the rear assembly from the inside is all that holds the strut together other than the one bolt on the rear beam

yeah rear struts are easy to replace, as long as the retaining nut inside the swing arm that holds and doesn't come loose, because if it does your gonna need help getting it out.

I changed all 4 of mine with the help of a breaker bar, and a old dog leash to compress the springs :-)

auto zone has a loan a tool program....you pay for it and then return it for a full refund. They should have a spring compressor
