  • Differences between combination switches

OK Im trying to put a intermittent wiper from a 88/89 lx on a 92 GL.

They look different, esp the black harness with the white connector coming of the light lever on the 92 which is lacking of the 88/89. Anyone know what its for?

Hey Fresh, what you can do is swap the intermittant relay and switch onto your cluster.

Before I posted I searched for info on this situation. I read that the marker lights wont work because there is no place to plug in the additional plug on newer version. Dont understand this because the older light lever/switch has the same function as the newer switch. Twist it to the first notch and it turns the parking lights on, twist it to the second notch and the parking and head lights come on. I think the old switch's may have been faulty. This little white box is on the old assembly but not the newer one.

This parking light/ head light function was internalized on the old set up but moved somewhere on the newer versions. Anyone with the older set up have problems with the light lever/switch

Carbonvmax; I considered changing just the intermittent module but part of the reason for changing combination switch was to change over to the orange color.

Well you can change the module and the lever with the orange type. I havent tried to swap the light lever, but I bet it will work. You have to "hold your mouth right" to get the module and lever together, but I pulled it off.

When I put my intermittent wiper module in the silver car I had the same kind of problem. The 626 switch had the little white plug, but it was attatched to the cruise control switch, not to the headlights. I just wound up just swapping the intermittent wiper module out. If you can't get it to work I'll try to get the orange lever switch from the 89 at the yard. It has the plug on it, and its not too hard to swap levers out, as I found on mine.
              No festiva for me ATM...

i tried swapping the light levers and it won't work. if you look at i think the 3rd pic down of a side view of the levers on my link to a different post up above you can see the base of them is a lot different.

this is what elcamino1 pmed me to try "I had the same problem, here's the fix find the two wire plug where you unplug ed the wire from the stalk jump the two wires then try your light switch should work". i haven't gotten around to do it because of work and other stuff. he says there is 2 wires and there are 3 but the green is probably just a ground. he said it worked for him though.

So you are saying to connect the red and white wire to each other and disreguard the green one? Ill try it thanks for the info. Are you still driving around with the second stalk dangling to keep your lights working?

yeah, it's still there because w/ working at least 6 days a week and long days i'm to tired to do much after work, in the dark, in the cold. i rarely drive at night though so it hasn't been a problem. elcamino1 didn't pm me until pretty recently. i may try this in the next couple of days if i can find those electrical connectors that just slide over the middle of a wire w/o cutting it because i didn't want to cut any wires unless i was sure it would work. if you try it before me let me know if it works and i will do the same. you've got me motivated to find a solution again.

Allyou have to do is switch over the wiper module. The orange and white lettered units don't interchange.

 I was hoping you would try it first and let me know. I think I'm going to drop a battery in the parts car and use an alligator clip jumper and connect the red and white wires to see if the marker lights come on when the orange light lever is in the parking light position. The connections are all exposed in the parts car without tearing the dash apart to find out if a jumper will work. I hate to get into it and find out it doesn't work.

fastivaca: My goal was to have an all orange combination switch so just changing the module would get me the intermittent wiper but not the color change.
