no tail lights

I have an 89 festy, the tail lights don't work. I've checked the fuses but their good, is there any thing else I need to check like a switch before I decide to rewire the lights.

check that the ground wires are good to ground. check for 12V to bulb socket ( i think red with green stripe is power to tails and green with red stripe is power to brakelites). check bulbs? check bulb sockets for corrosion. check contact tips on base of bulbs for wear-sometimes over time the soft metal contact bump develops a depression. if the license plate lights are working then the 12V u need for the tailights is at least getting to the back of the car.

may want to check you headlight switch inside your steering column
