  • HELP with driveshafts and CVs and gear oil.

So I'm refurbing some extra driveshafts because I'm sure the groaning and poping i hear is from an outer joint on the car now. ANyhow, I'm wondering wtf this old piece of rubber is in the middle of the longer shaft! all my festivas had this but it was all worn and trashed. Also, I'm not sure if I'm filling up the tranny with enough gear oil. You just top it off where the spedo cable goes in right? Thanks, I did a carb to fuel inj on another festiva that i had and i did it then but i parted it out for the newer festiva i have now. Thanks!

That rubber ring on the longer shaft , is a torsional vibration dampener .
It helps take any vib out of the longer shaft at higher speeds .

The trans fluid . when you pull it out (speedo cable) there is a mark on the end that shows the full mark ,

You should only put in 2.6 quarts of fluid in your tranny. You might want to drain it and start over. The dip stick for viewing fluid level is a joke to use.
