DO i need shims for tranny?

I recently have put my tranny back together and there is a noise. I was just wondering how many if any shims need to be used in the festiva 5spd tranny? WHere do they go?

Where you put the shims, should they be an axact fit where they are to be installed, or should they be able to move around?

They go on the end of the gear shafts, in between the outer bearing race and the transmission case.

HOw many should there be?

There are two (2) shims on the top of the input and output towers in mine. Each one of the pairs has the same thickness. Good luck.
