  • Connecting rod help!!!! Needed ASAP

I found a super clean 1990 Festiva w/ an automatic that I can pick up for around $300. The person who owns it says that it has a rod knock and that the bottom end will have to be gone through. I don't really want an auto but the car looks like it's brand new and like I said is super clean. I was thinking about buying it and driving it around untill I can find a one with a MT so I can do a turbo swap. Then I would have an extra car of parts too. My problem is I haven't been able to locate any connecting rods for the little beast and I need to be able to drive it. Anyone know where to get some reasonably priced? Also, does $300 sound like a good deal or a waist? Let me know. Thanks.

I would just look for a complete engine. Less work and cheaper in the long run. To repair the existing motor you will need bearings, seals, maybe turn the crank, etc. You should be able to pick up an engine for $100-150 then drop it in and go. Also quicker to do an engine change than repair a rod knock.

Thanks for the help, do you suggest buying one from a wrecking yard? Any better ideas?

Check the junkyards. Try to find a place that has one that you can hear run or one that has done a compression check. Also check this site: http://www.car-part.com/

I agree with the engine swap also, going to be cheaper and easier in the long run. Check your junk yards, summer means auto meets and swaps, also check this websites for sale. E-bay will have some from time to time as well. Good luck.

get it, buy a b6t and capri tranny. get the clutch and shifter assembly out of a junkyard festiva. then you'll have a ultra nice clean festiva with a turbo and a manual tranny.

You could also look for a B6 and drop that in with hardly any extra effort. Get an extra 20 or so HP for the same cost as a 1.3.
