  • Car starts but shuts off 30 seconds later..

    yo peeps..

anyone know what this is a symptom of? starting my car for the day and it turns on but cuts out about 30 seconds later then will no longer start.

the engine still turns over but just wont start up.

things to know is that it is winter and last night we had it get to -10 degrees. also i had bought a new battery the night before but it seems to be working fine.. engine still cranks just no start.

anyone know what i can do to check what the problem is or how to fix?

this is on a 92 automatice festiva by the way

When the ignition control model on my car went I had it towed to the service station. The mechanics complained that it would only run for 30 seconds so they could not diagnose the problem. Took a guess it was the ICM. A replacment fixed the problem. You can take the ICM to some parts stores where they will test if for free. If it is a bad ICM you should call around. Although it's a sole supplier item the retailers have widely varying markups, some double the lowest. There is a wroteup on mine that might still be available on a now-abandoned website at
        www.ncf.ca/~ag384/Cars.htm . Good luck.
