  • Sloppy shifter

i looked at a festiva today... when the shifter was put into gear there was a ridiculous amount of play.. you could move it left to right about 6", it felt like it was in neutral.. is this a problem with the transmission or is it just a simple fix? it was a 5spd and it did that in every gear.

or is this just how festivas are? cause this was the first manual one ive seen

Could be a sloppy shifter bushing, I doubt its in the tranny.

Bushings, not too bad of a job to replace. Don't let that stop you from buying the car.

by not repairing you maybe doing damage to either shift drum or shift forks,or syncro's. by not fully engageing in gear.

Just buy the short shift kit from Festiva Motorsports. In includes a new short shifter, and the bushings. I think the kits are $89.00. Probably $100.00 after shipping--Jeremie

the play i have is in the linkage itself, not inside the tranny, the last time it was on a hoist i was lookin at it, so it is fully engaging in gear

The shifter is what moves the shift rod if there is inch or so slop you're probably not fully ingageing in gear

so what i'm saying is if you're puting car in first gear and your hand is up to dash shifter won't go any farther you may not be pulling rod back far enough to fully engage

^^oh sorry i never mentioned, it's only side to side play, so the shifter isn't any closer to the dash than it should be

i see what your trying to say now
