  • Automatic Festiva?

I have a 1989 5 speed carbureted Festiva. I am looking into buying an automatic fuel injected Festiva in my town. Does the engine wiring harness from the automatic car interchange with my 5 speed car? To be honest I want to keep using the block, and head thats already in my 89 carb festiva because I know its a good engine. Can I just swap all the manifolds, and wiring from the automatic fuel injected car onto the carbureted block? Alot of questions I know.--Jeremie

If you are saying you want to swap engine from the 89 to auto FI car then yes take everything off of FI engine and put it on 89 engine.

You got it backwards homeboy. Can I put fuel injection on a carb engine? Are the heads diffrent? Are the cams diffrent? Will the automatic computer work with a 5 speed transmission? Will the 5 speed wiring work with the automatic engine wiring?

^ That is what he actually said , he was meaning swapping the FI stuff on the 89 engine .
I am not sure what harness you will need .I have not done any thing like that .

when doing that kind of swap you need everything from a stickshift car

i've done this swap before, the block and head are the same, on the EFI head there is a plate that covers where the mechanical fuel pump would go on the carb'd head

what we did was unbolted the intake on the EFI engine and bolted it onto the carb'd engine, other than that i can't think of anything else that you'll need to swap over from the EFI to the carb'd

oh i can't quite remember (been like 5 years since i did this) the connecter for the alternator may be different from auto to standard, of it was cause of 88 into a 90, either way you could keep the alt. in same car it came out of

2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

If you want to use the auto harness in a 5-speed, yes it will work. As for interchanging it to a carbed engine I don't know. Are you converting a carbed car to FI? If so why not just use the whole engine from the doner to be sure. There is a thread on the site here where Deathshead swapped a auto tranny to a 5 speed tranny and kept the auto electronics.

Ah, I always wondered what that plate was. I've never really messed with carb'd ones before, just FI so I've never seen a mechanical fuel pump on a festy. I'll have to check one out next time at the yard
                    No festiva for me ATM...

I'm going from carbureted to fuel injected hopefully. The reason I want to use my bottom end is because I know that the engine I am using now is a strong motor. I'm not to sure about the other other one. Plus its easier for me to change manifolds, fuel lines and some wiring than to pull two engines and two transmissions.--Jeremie

^^what we did is never even unhooked any connecters, fuel lines, etc. off of the intake, just unbolted it and moved it off to the side, put the carb'd engine in (without the intake of course) and bolted on the FI intake with everything still hooked up it, plugged in the rest of the harness and fired it up first time

if i remember right the EFI camshaft still had a lobe that was made to drive the mechanical fuel pump even though there was never one there
