I brought my owner's manual to thepublic library today. This is what it says:

"We recommend that you use Motorcraft oil or an equivalent that meets both Ford specification M2C153-E and:

    API SERVICE CATEGORY SG

Oils labeled API service SF are NOT recommended unless also shown with API service SG (Example: API Service SF, SG)."

Today's oils are labeled SH, a stanadard set since my 1989 manual was published.

PS I almost typed "We recommend that you use Microsoft..."
Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

Motorcraft oil is made by Conoco (kissing cousin to the Hydroclear) and is actually pretty decent oil for the $1.80 a quart it costs.

I'm an AMSOIL fan obviously and even though I'm still burning 20 oz per 1000 miles in my aspire I keep dumping it in there. It's time to just replace that engine I think.
