    whats this gasket for? its in-between the timing belt cover and the block. Is this just to keep the elements out?

    Because as you can see, its blown out

    Yeah, it's a dust cover gasket. that happens when oil gets on it for a while.

        I came across the same problem just yesterday while replacing the vc gasket. Nobody had one in stock so I just put in a big bead of silicone & let it dry first.
