  • Engine wont start - Possible fuel problem

I've got a '91 Kia Pride 1.3LX. The Carb version. Just replaced the cylinder head as it had cracked and now the car doesn't start. It cranks fine and when being towed the engine will turn over, but there seems to be some kind of fuel problem. I've replaced all the spark plugs and have taken them out and cranked and they are all firing OK.

Seems like there is no fuel getting in to spark. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong and how I could sort it?

    Cheers,
    Danny.

if you have a compression tester or access to one, i would test the PSI. that will narrow your search down.

Was the head you had put on the car from a Carb or from a FI car? If the head you had installed came from a car that has FI it will not have the extra lobe on the camshaft to drive the fuel pump for your Carb'ed car.

The new head is definately Carbed. And yes, I'm from the UK. Tomorrow I'm going to have a go at taking all the plugs out and putting a bit of petrol in each one, to see if the engine will fire up.

Is there any easy way that I can check to see if the fuel pump is working/

Attach a fuel pressure guage to the line.
