  • Getting the most mileage out of your gas.

I know there are some gas mileage hawks lurking around here so I was wondering what people are doing to get better mileage from a festiva. I know the basics new o2 sensor, plugs, wires and filters. What else can be done? All suggestions welcome.

Well I will accept that for highway travel since it would not be stop and go driving (hopefully). I think for in city or stop and go shorter tires would be the route for that since it takes less to get them rolling. Any other oppinions?

You said what can be done to get better gas mileage,It doesn't matter what you do if all your driving is in stop and go traffic you won't get good mileage, you waste gas every time you take off from a stop.

well I was putting the option out there for those of us who are stuck in the city I was not trying to debate you. True you do lose mileage every time you start from a stop but you can lessen the effects of it to a degree. ;-)

I use a block heater. Winter gas milage is always worse than summer.

The rule of thumb for driving is "the smoother the ride, the better the gas milage". I accelerate and decellerate moderately. Pisses off some of the kids who get stuck behind me but I figure slowing them down improves their gas milage as well as my own.

Here is a link that suggests that adding acetone will improve gas mileage by 20-30% http://www.diylive.net/index.php/200...r-gas-mileage/

                      What do you think?

                        What do you think?

Me thinks it another web myth!
It made its rounds on the diesel sites and a trucker who makes a long run regularly posted his finding on 5 trips with acetone and 5 trips without acetone. Findings, statistically identical MPG, no difference!

I've been wanting to start this thread myself but was too lazy!

                        Ideas:
Increase tire pressure to max rating on tire (ride sucks but does increase MPG)
Lower the car (FMS lowering springs) less air flow under the car, reducing drag.
Was wondering about and air dam after lowering the car, wouldn't need much of one on a lowered car.
Maybe alter the timing to max MPG instead of power!
Some means of monitoring and adjusting air fuel ratio on the fly.

Install a co-worker unit in the passenger seat (aftermarket item). And have them pay for half the gas.

changing profile and height on tires apparently can set ur spedometer off track, i'd do a little research before switching tires, just to be on the safe side.

correct size for festy is 185/60/14 or equivelent... proven w/ radar and rolling road. this will result in lower mpg figures though, but they will now be accurate mpg figures.
