  • What are the odds?

Well Zippy's brakes went to the floor on me last week. No fluid loss anywhere that I can see. I have a used mc pulled from Ruben's car.. replaced and bled.. Doing the same thing.. What are the chances I replaced a bad mc with another bad mc?

If you're sure you bled the air out of the master cylinder, I would pump the pedal many times and see if the fluid level drops. It's possible you may have a rear wheel cylinder leaking. It takes quite a bit of fluid loss before it shows up on the outside of the drum.
    You gonna race that thing?

DJ., if that M/C out of Rubens car had been setting for a while , after it had been in use , Odds are that the seals have shrank on it , and it is bypassing too .

I would have someone look under the car while I was rapidly pumping the brakes to see if anything was leaking or making a sound .

Did you look into the M/C as it was being pumped , on the car ..bubbles ??
Did you try to bench bleed it before you installed it ?

Just several questions , I was not sure if it was stored dry , or if it had fluid left in it .

I pulled of the drums, no leaks.. It has to be the mc.. I bench bled it beforehand as well.

            seems very unlikely
There is no replacement for displacement, except for the turbo in my basement.

who in the world uses used master cylinders over again?

save a few bucks over the safety and reliability of your brakes?

please explain why they are used.......

is it because they have new parts inside an old refurbished housing???

"Re-Man" meens that if parts are within spec.......they clean them and they reuse them, they are not new, generaly the seals are all that are worn from not sevicing your fluids, they throw a kit in them, providing your housing is still good. NEW parts are generally very pricy on some items. Why do you think their is a core :? .......so the reman people can toss them out for you?........no  that is not the case! I'll bet you never reline your brakes either, you get reman's......I have mine relined, takes out the middle man.......save a few$........ 'cause i'm cheap!

When Brake shoes are new they come riveted or bonded, when you get shoes from the parts store the cheap ones are relined either bonded or riveted.

There's a place here in chicago called Allbrake they reline whatever you bring in bonded or riveted.

OK people it wasn't the mC.. I found out exactly what it was.. loose Spindle nut!! Collapsing the rubber line. (This is why you never reuse spindle nuts) Today I was either extremely lucky or extremely unlucky.. I will go with the former. 80mph with no pass side spindle nut, I'm amazed that Zippy and I are still alive. It almost made it home before it dropped. Took 5 mins to fix, now the brakes are great. And I have a good spare mc.
