  • Hub removal

I totally screwed up the passenger side hub on my project Festiva. I managed to mess up the threads on two of the lug holes and towed the car with the passenger CV axle removed, causing the inner bearing to pop out and destroy the hub.

I got everything off except the steering knuckle (if that's what it's called). I undid the castle nut and hammered on the bolt part, but it seems permanently attached.

How would I get that off so I can replace the hub and get this little guy back on the road?

    Regards,

    Tim

Wheel puller? Could you be a little more specific?

How did you get yours off?

I assume you are talking about removing the tie rod end from the steering knuckle since the tie rod is the only thing with a castle nut. Take a big hammer and hit the side of the knuckle where the tie rod goes through as hard as you can. That "bolt" is a taper fit and when you hit the side of the knuckle, the shock of the impact will pop it out.
        You gonna race that thing?

my bad i read it wrong... your trying to remove the tierod end? for that i used a ball joint separator (looks like a big tuning fork) but you should be able to loosen it up w/o that... as festy46 said. spray it a bunch with PB and tap it real good.

I got tired of tearing up the rubber grease boots with my old "Pickle Fork" and bought a tierod end puller.

I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I wasn't expecting my daily driver to break down on me...

Hopefully I'll get to it tomorrow, and I'll update with my results.
