  • Side/Park Light Relay - no lights

    Greetings from down-under...

I'm searching for the Side/Park Light Relay on my 1992 Ford Festiva. This is due to having main and dipped headlights but no rear/side and plate lights - I do have 12V across the fuse which shows that the stalk-switch is okay.

Where is the relay and how do you bypass the relay to check its operation?

    Cheers

    Hiya,

Still no joy  - no side/park lights or dash lights... fuse okay, 12V across the stalk switch, all the bulbs are okay - tested each one... each light fitting (park/side) has a good earth and works when 12V is put across it.

Cant fathom out what is wrong - it must be some sort of short-circuit but where?

An odd thing happens when I put a bulb across the stalk switch - the voltage drops to just under 1V?? but when there is no load/bulb I get a strong 12V?? HELP!

    Anyone any ideas...?

    Cheers

Sounds like you have a short somewhere.

It's late and I'm too tired to go into details, but when you put the bulb in it completes the circuit, and the short is reason why the voltage drops.

On ours, it's by the passenger side headlight. I bypassed mine for a night until I got a new 1 the next day..

Thank you for the feedback... after another day sifting through the wiring the problem has gone! The annoying thing is I dont know why...??

I managed to determine that there was a problem in the front wiring loom - between the fuse and connection to the front side lights (red/green wire). This part of the loom goes through the firewall and over the front wheel arch into the engine bay near the washer bottle reservoir. I must have moved something??

Anyway - the little red Festiva is back on the road...

          Cheers

Thanks for the welcome KingFish!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!! It's been over 1 week now and I still cannot get my dash lights, parking lights and license plate lighs to turn on. I tried EVERYTHING!! I checked the relay, fuse link, fuse, light bulbs, cleaned ALL the contacts on EVERYTHING. The weird thing is that they were working just fine up to 1 week ago. The relay makes a clicking noise when I turn the switch on but nothing lights up. I've been in my garage every nite for the past week from 11pm-6AM trying to figure it out. I even bought a new relay ($32) and they still will NOT turn on!! Obviously, the light switch itself is not defective because like I said, it is sending a signal to the relay next to the passenger headlight since I do hear a "clicking" from the relay AND I bought a brand new one and my headlights and turn signals along with my high-beams work perfect. So I guess it can't be the light switch or the relay. I also checked the fuse links, and the regular 15amp fuse in the interior panel and they look ok. EVERYTHING else in the car works as it should. I really do NOT know what it can be??? Someone on here mentioned that I should take a jumper wire and "bypass" the relay but how do I do that? I do have some jumper wires but were do I connect them to? Do I connect them to the plug that usually connects to the relay itself? And then, where to I connect the other end? I've been driving my 1992 Mustang LX 5.0 for the past week since I cannot drive my "Festarossa", but gas is KILLING me!! Again, all four of my parking lights, dash lights and my license plate lights will NOT turn on. If ANYBODY can help it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! -Steve (313)220-3000.
