  • stalling problem

    Ok
I have a 89 auto, and when I roll up to stop signs (especially ones on hills). When I hit the gas the car will sometimes stall on me. I only happeans if I do a harder stop and get on the gas immediately afterward....
is this a common problem? I miss my stick shift

Try replacing your spark plugs and possibly spark plug wires.
I had that hesitation problems also (especially during wet weather).
Changing the wires did the trick.

dont overlook the fuel filter. my 88 was puking and hacking cause the filter had some garbage plugging it up.

If you suspect a weak spark simply wiping the ignition wires clean may fix the problem. I clean mine once a year or so. If you have a volt-ohm meter you can check the ignition wires for resistance before replacing them. I bought wires with t lifetime guarantee so I never have to buy another set, just exhange them. Good luck.

            Tune up.

New fuel filter if yours is old.

Check the fuel pump strainer for rust or other crap in your tank.

These would be most likely causes in my estimation, but I'm still a "new" mechanic.

Get the Ford shop manual for your car and it should have detailed troubleshooting steps for you to take.
