Steering wheel removal tricks?

I've pulled steering wheels maybe four times and it's never taken more than about a minute of pushing/pulling for me to remove one. When I feel the wheel begin to have more slop, I know it's almost ready to come off and I reduce the force I'm using. Haven't smacked myself yet!
