  • spline count for driver side halfshaft?

Yep, I've been having major trobles putting in the drivers side halfshaft.
Oh, i know it needs to be hit with a woodblock and mallet to coax it in but this is rediculous!
After realizing just how rediculous it was, i decided to count the splines on the end of the half shaft vs. the spline count inside the differential.
The count on the end of the shaft that I got (twice now) is 24 teeth.
The spline count inside the diff is 22 teeth.
No wonder it wouldn't go in no matter how many times I tried.
I've let the shop who got the parts for me know about it and they're gonna get me another shaft. We figure that maybe they put the wrong part# in the festiva box.
Can anyone tell me the spline count on a new driver's side halfshaft?
I'm wondering if the transmission was replaced at one time, but i totally doubt it...it was my father's car before I owned it and he never said he had the tranny worked on.
Can anyone give me the count?
    ThANKS!!!

22 teeth is the correct number for a manual transmission.

Thanks for your replies John and Jim.
That sounds exactly like what they did; an auto axle instead of a manual.
I should have the correct one tomorrow sometime.
Thanks again for all of your help guys, I truly appreciate it
