  • cv joint auto standard swap??????

i have a standard tranny parts car with a good cv axel
my auto tranny cv axel has a clicking outer joint.
can i make one good unit from the two???
i know that they are differnt as far as splines that go in the tranny but the same on the outer sides.
also one is longer but if i changed the inner sides would that work???

i don;t think thats such a good idea...i hear somewhere that the halfshafts need to be dynamically balanced. could have been bs though, not sure. i'd just buy a new one to be on the safe side. there was some guy selling em on ebay for the protege, i e-mailed him and he had the festiva ones for like 25 or 50 bucks no core.

      ok this is odd....
i pulled (whacked) off the outer joint and it had a bad boot .
then i washed it in gas and looked for broken stuff and it looks fine???
will it click when you turn if there is a ripped boot ??
there was grease in there but it had alot of dirt also.
then i pulled the one off my parts car and it has a good boot and half the miles and it looks about the same .
i have a new boot and a tube of cv grease that i will use to see if that fixes it .

just wondering if it might just be a dry joint.

        axle

you can dismantle it and use good parts but if you take some bearing be sure to use all parts from the same unit but you can replace shaft and other joint in any combination...on aspire automatin you can use escort one on right side...the 1.9 is the same axle

          no more click.
new boot and a big gob of grease.
also i find that these festivas are easy to fix and come apart easy.
and with 2 parts cars i can see that i wil be running for some time.
