  • Engine not starting up...

So First of all, the car has been sitting in the back yard for five years and has a blown head gasket...

    1991 Festiva L (fuel injection)

So then enging is not starting. I will let you know every test I have done so far and tell you guys what has happened. so I have used starting fluid and the car fired, and stayed going just fine. The throttle worked too, it revved up. so all of the electrical timing, coil, alternator is ok right?. I disconnected the fuel filter and gas came out while turning the car over So the car has fuel just fine. Just replaced the fuel pump to have this happen.
So I am thinking of bypassing the air filter to test if it is clogged up. then check the ground wire to the fuel injection system stuff. Does anybody know where that is? And then check all of the electrical system for the fuel injection using the manual for ohms, voltage, and amps using a multimeter I will be doing that 21st, 22nd of April. Can you guys think of anything else I could do for testing whats wrong?

Clean the injectors. I've had them sit for a year and they clogged.

I had a Protege that would do all the things you describe. It turned out to be a bad distributer not allowing the injectors to pulse so I wasn't getting any gas in the engine.

Guys!, I got it running woooooohoooooo! When my dad checked out the distributor he put the rotor back on wrong. I found it though!, today. Injectors are ok! Now I just need to replace the head gasket! got any comments on replacing that thing? I am thinking of replacing the entire engine... because the engine has 235 thousand on it! i am an ok mechanic and thinking of doing the b6 swap but its kinda daunting. I have done a stock transmission replacement but never an engine replacement. maybe I should replace the b3 another b3 before I think about a b6/b6t swap. What about replacing it with an aspire b3 with low miles? how much work, etc. for both?

Yeah I would just replace the motor, and if you were into that sort of thing, rebuild the old one when you have time :-) Or scrap it and put something bigger in your festiva, like a 1.6 or 1.8 (B6, BP)
