  • Wont start if its raining ?

Its happened before but not like this,I have noticed in the past that if it has rained a little she has a hard time starting, then runs really rough until she is fully warmed up.Today due to very heavy rains it wont start at all,I can smell fuel so it is getting gas....must be spark problem.....is it common or do I have a moisture problem somewhere ?Help !!! Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

check disributer cap real good meaning even the terminals that the coil wire goes into the center terminal. my 93 sat for two weeks and i was thinking something big was wrong but it was the center terminal that was corroded..i felt stupid after that.

      s_man692000,

As you don't give your location I'm assuming your in the monsoons in the north east!

I had same problem, years ago, wore down a new battery trying to start her up!

Changed coils, changed distributer, changed rotor no luck!

Finally, replaced plug wires with NAPA's best and haven't had a problem in 5+ years!
Don't buy the cheap ones or you'll be buying them again!
Especially, if you live in a wet/humid climate!

Wipe off the ignition wires and cap with a dry cloth. If that fixes the problem it might help to put dielectric paste on the end of the wire inslation to keep the moisture out. If you buy new wires there will be a small pouch of paste with them. If you buy new wires I'd recomment the ones with a lifetime warranty so you can replace them for free any time. Just hang onto the receipt.

I got it going,it was moisture getting into the cap somehow, the gasket was really flattened on the ends closest to the fasteners holding the cap on.I smeared a thin layer of silicone around the edges. And dried the cap out and she purrs like a kitten.I even hit some major water pools on the way to work this morning and she didnt miss a beat. Thanks for all the replies !!!!
