Won't idle

My newest Festy won't idle, and bogs down until something like 2000 rpms.

After that the car runs fine. It also will start right up after stalling out and runs pretty smoothly.

I've done a few things to the engine and some troubleshooting but I can't figure out what's causing the car to die.

It was smacked by a deer so I don't know if the wreck had anything to do with it, but the radiator and battery spilled their guts all over the engine bay.


Any ideas?

ps - is it normal for that sensor on the exhaust manifold (can't think of the name right now) to smell sort of like burning wood and smoke? Or is that just the last of the battery acid/coolant burning up?

check the maf if you have one, clean it if needed, they sell a can of maf cleaner its like brake clean but you just spray in the maf and it drys quick.

Yes- O2 sensor's the word I'm looking for. I don't know what the burning is, they don't usually do that...

I did check the MAF, it's working correctly. I have another that I'll try tomorrow. Also, that tube from the MAF to the intake has a crack in it, could that be an issue?

yes try putting some duct tape over it and see if it helps,

the maf measures the airflow going into the engine, and if you have any leaks it will run lean, id suggest pulling it completly off and seal all cracks on it and make sure the vac hoses are all good as well

I'll check for leaks and cover that hole.

and keep this in mind

if you cant fix it with duct tape, bailing wire or a piece of a hanger, it CANT be fixed =)

Turns out that the plastic piece was missing a big chunk from the underside. Replacing it solved the idle problem and it no longer bogs down.
