  • factory A/C vs. dealer add-on

any reason that I could not put a factory a/c compressor on a car that has dealer air?
I was thinking that all I need to do is change out the funky bracket on the dealer model, with a stock bracket and compressor. (should fit stock block)
But I'm not sure that it will displace some other belt or something. (hoping not to have to replace entire a/c to do so)
    Any help/experience appreciated.
    Thanks,
    tex

No issues with the belts, but you will need the lines going to the compressor as they have different connectors.

It's a fairly easy thing to do; make sure you use new O-rings.

I don't know if its the case in your case but the outer crank pulley on some A/Cs are dog bowl shaped and others are flat. I don't know which is factory and which is add on, but you may have a belt alignment problem. You may also have a rusty thread problem in the compressor bracket mounting holes in the block. Not sure about any of this just my two cents.
