  • Gauges stuck!

    Hey all,
Am going to pull my gauges out and re-do the faces to make them a bit more modern, (1988 L+), but i have a problem,,, the gauges won't come out! I've unscrewed everything, and it won't move more than about 1/2" out. It seems like it's stuck on something. Has anyone ever encountered this?

nope, didn't do that... just going by what the shop manual says , which is to pull the gauges out, and disconnect the speedo cable from the rear of the gauges, which is impossible since the gauges don't come out. It doesn't mention the speedo connection @ the trans.

You remove the bezel then unplug the 2 connectors and the speedo cable. Then pull out. That's all.

Yeah, I had the same problem. I tried to remove the cluster without loosening the speedo cable from the transmission, but my hand could not reach up to disconnect the cable from the cluster. Removing the cable from the transmission allows everything to move out so that you have room to work. Makes it MUCH easier!! Good Luck!
