obnoxious clicking with ac at idle

ok guys this has been doing this since i got the car, but whenever i have the ac on, and at a light or stop sign or something i have a real loud clicking noise, only at idle anything higher than idle and it quits, is this just me or does everyone get this.

Could be a relay going bad.

I had a similar problem with my Festiva's A/C.

I don't know where they are on the Aspire but in the Festiva there was a group of 3 relays in the engine bay just below the driver's side headlight.

well to narrow this down its on the pass side. front end, could be a relay lol.

was gonna do this when i got it but it turned cold and forgot about it lol

My 94 did the same thing. It's something to do with the compressor but I never had any problems with it. If it keeps working I wouldn't mess with it. It's more of a creaking noise than a click.

ya sounds like its comming from the compressor.

went tonight since advance was open and grabed a can with a gauge on it, and it showed the psi of freon was like 45 at idle lol.

My Caddy A/C compressor did that for a year , then the whole clutch assy. almost came off last year , the bearing were shot in the clutch assy.

Our aspire used to do that too, never did figure out what it was.

do the rpm's drop momentarily when it clicks? definitely sounds like the comp clutch is cycling in and out. if the 45 psi was read when the compressor wasn't being cycled by the clutch then you are definitely way low on refridgerant.
