How far down the pipe past the manifold?
An oldtimer told me to spray some paint on the pipe, and the point where it doesn't blister is safe for long term braze repairs.
That said, yes, I have brazed a manifold, and it helped keeping
the folks inside a Dodge Van from getting gassed out from exhaust
fumes: and it outlasted the rest of the vehicle.

Yep, Big P has probably the best solution - As long as the pipe is healthy and not rusty or rotted. Any typical repair shop should be able to close that crack with a weld bead from a Tig welder. They should spot slightly pass the crack on each side first (to prevent the crack from spreading/lengthening) and then just lay a nice bead on top of the crack and you should be "good to go".

the joint was rusted out all around, ontop too, so welding wasnt an option, otherwise i would have migwelded it in a second. And the pipe was rusted in there so good that it wasn't coming out, so i cut out the area and clamped in a new piece of flexible pipe.89SX funtop! Fully loaded!

If the pipe is rusty the brass wont flow right. You could cut a doner patch from a peice of new pipe to make a patch and then braze that in on top of the crack or hole. the metal needs to be clean. Brass dont flow till the metal is blood red to chery red, have you ever seen the pipe get that color from the exhaust temps?
