Gas tank leak

Hey all, my 1988 Festy (L+,manual trans,186,000) has a gas leak. It's right under the access cover behind the drivers' seat..
I have tried to use the gas tank seal stuff that you can get at the parts store, but it has only lasted about 6 months. The last time I fixed it (2004), I beleive I used auto body putty, a very thin mixture, and it lasted about a year and a half.
Any suggestions on what may last longer?? I do not have the time to remove the tank, since I have to use my car every day and do not have another car to use.

vinylester resin. Its a bit much for a such a small repair,
but somebody else may make smaller containers.

this is more alcohol and gasoline resistant than epoxy or
polyester resins.

same prob with mine awhile back. seems to be a weak spot around the vent nipples. don't put in more than 3 gal. of gas and avoid hard right hand turns. seriously, if you plan ahead with having a replacement tank ready and having the access panels off and the bad tank empty or drained it shouldn't take more than about an hour to replace.

Nope, replacement not an option. I don't have many tools with me, and frankly, I tried to r&r the tank 2 years ago, and as far as I could tell, without removing the rear axle,, it's impossible to remove. I'd much rather just patch it up and have it last another year; I'd be happy.

there is a product called propoxy....that we sell at work..but I have seen similar produsts at auto parts stores. It is a 2 part putty that hardens to steel strength....one guy I know used it to repair a cracked block. Once hard it can be tapped and drilled or just sit there and plug a leak....lol

^^nope....not the same. this is in stick form....2 colors with one of the parts being through the center of the other...like a pretzel and cheese combo...hehehe. You break off what you need and then you mix the 2 till it turns all one color. Then you apply and let harden

Still not as good as that vinyl based stuff. the putty seems to
work ok on top of tanks, but that vinyl was the only stuff I found
that lasted long term on the bottom of a gastank

^^ I would agree....but he said his leak is just under the access to the tank...under the rear seat.
