  • Quick head gasket question.

    i cleaned the head part
    i cleaned the engine part
    so everything is clean
    I bought a head gasket.
do I need any type of sealant/glue?
or just put it on dry with only the metal pressing only the gasket material.
    Do I need anything else?

you shouldn't need ANY sealent for the head, BUT, i recomend some high temp RTV around the oil feed and return holes. A VERY THIN LAYER!!!!! i built my B6 and regret not having a thin layer of sealent on the head and valve gaskets (i have oil seapage from the head and valve cover and it makes the engine dirty/oily). when the motor comes out for an inspection/rebuild, i'm going to use some sealent.

Don't use any sealant, install it dry and torque to specs.

Correct - No sealant and torque to spec. I follow aerospace torque practices. Following the torque sequence, you torque to half the value, then again to 3/4 value and then finally full value. If it works on aircraft, it will work on your car.
