  • 3 bolt or 4 bolt bellhousing

i didnt know there was 2 different ones but now that im looking for a transmission everyone asks whether its a 3 bolt or 4 bolt. im out of town during the week and my car is at home so i cant look and see which it is. is there a way of telling without looking at the car? its a 1993 festiva L 5-speed.

I believe they are referrring to the number of bolts that hold the mounts. Early 93's are different than late 93's and Aspires. If you get another transmission you should try to get the crossmember with it and then it should bolt in. The crossmembers are different between the two, but will still bolt to the car. That is how it was explained to me.
If anybody knows differently - Please feel free to correct me!!!!!!!

ive never known there to be a difference between years. maybe between the aspire and the festiva, but not between the mounts on just festivas. only difference might be between auto/manual?

i know ive replaced my late 93 rear tranny mount with a good 88 mount i pulled of one of my parts cars.

Don't be so fast - I'm telling you that if you look up this part in the Junk Yard cross reference they want to know if it is 3 or 4 bolts and there is a difference - Late 93's Festivas and Aspires are 4 Bolts - All other Festivas are 3 bolts. Check it out!
