  • Valve cover sheild thinnger

OK, i removed that shield thing inside the valve cover so i could get it all cleaned out for when i bake it after i paint it. To my surprise there was a gasket in-between that got destroyed when i pulled it off. Whats the purpose of the shield? Is it part of the PCV system? Would i be fine using some RTV when i put it back together or am i in trouble?

I think what you are talking about is the shield that deflects the oil , back down onto the rockers , and just not all over where it is not needed .

It also helps deflect the oil away from the PCV , so it does not directly suck the oil , only vapors .

Yes, that's what it does. Just start the engine sometime with the valve cover off and you'll find out what it does.
      You gonna race that thing?

That gasket has always been included with every valve cover gasket that I have bought. I don't think I have ever changed it out though.

its like the baffell on the 350 engine. i returned some valve covers to summit because it did not have the baffles and would have sucked the oil.
