OK, i removed that shield thing inside the valve cover so i could get it all cleaned out for when i bake it after i paint it. To my surprise there was a gasket in-between that got destroyed when i pulled it off. Whats the purpose of the shield? Is it part of the PCV system? Would i be fine using some RTV when i put it back together or am i in trouble?

I think what you are talking about is the shield that deflects the oil , back down onto the rockers , and just not all over where it is not needed .
It also helps deflect the oil away from the PCV , so it does not directly suck the oil , only vapors .------------------------------------------------

Yes, that's what it does. Just start the engine sometime with the valve cover off and you'll find out what it does. :mrgreen:You gonna race that thing?
