  • Very high idle that wont come down

My 88 festiva ran just fine going to work the other day but when i went to leave it revved up to about 3000 rpm and would not come back down. I tried my best to find any vacum hoses loose cracked or missing and for a stuck cable but could not find anything out of the ordinary.

Did you push on the gas pedal? Sometimes they stick and you have to tap it to bring it down to normal.

Did you check the throttle and choke linkages on the outside of the carburettor? They are easier to see when the air cleaner is removed. It's a good idea to spray them clean with carb cleaner whenever the inside of the carburettor is cleaned.

If you can't find a mechanical cause, there is always the ignition control module inside the distributor. As a last resort it can be removed and taken it to be tested which some parts stores do for free.
