'93 auto Festiva stuck in neutral

reversed out of parking space, put it in drive & no movement. it will shift into any/all gears, but will not move (unless pushed). so, pushed it back into parking space, put blocks in front of tires, and am dreading just sending it off to the tranny shop "blind". any ideas as to the possible problem? stays in neutral regardless of gear--including park. had an axle break & be replaced about 5 years ago, but at that time it refused to move in any gear but neutral, so i at least know _that_ isn't the problem. any help/suggestions/advice would be fantastic!!

my parts cars cv joint pulled out of its socket from the collision.
it made no sound.
what happens when you spin wheel when lifted????
