Ratzin Fratzin exhaust buzz, with video

Turn up the sound, you can hear the damned buzz, between 2500 and 3500 rpm, under load...

it's much louder in the car than in the video. The exhaust smoothes out and sounds GREAT above 3500, or below 2500....

Genie 4/2/1 header, 2.5" exhaust, hollow cat, Flowmaster 60 series import muffler..

think it's the hollow cat resonating?

I done a before and after video also .

Mine was doing the same thing , very annoying , the easier you drive at steady speed the worse it was .

I had them install the longest resonator they had in stock , like 21 or 22 inches , right behind where the cat sits .

I listened, but I couldn't hear the buzz on your video... I wasn't sure if it was doing the same thing or not. If you listen to where I shift down into 3rd, run up the R's then let off, you can hear it very plainly.

Mine does it when you accelerate, you can hardly hear it at a steady speed, unless it is under load, at or around 3000 rpm...

The resonator got rid of ALL the buzz??

I wonder if putting a cat with guts in it will cure mine? I keep thinking it's the hollow cat doing the buzz, but who knows..

I can't really afford to drop any more money in this exhaust right now, so I guess I will live with it... yuk

Yes , all the buzz and the drone ...gone .

The cat does knock down a lot of the noise , but I did not want to put the stock Festiva cat back on with a now 2.25" exhaust , So I chose the resonator .

I am very happy with results , so is she :lol: :lol:

I would go with a big 2.25 or 2.50" hi-flow cat if I went that route.

Was your high pitched buzz very very rpm specific? Mine is ONLY between 2500 and 3500, and is on acceleration, OR deceleration, way worse under heavy load.

I guess what I really need to know is if anyone thinks it is the hollow cat doing the resonating? because if it is, a separate resonator will not get rid of it, and since local shops won't just eliminate the cat, I have the choice of putting on a new cat, or trying to do it myself, and mine is nice and clean, like yours, and I don't want clamps or anything like that on my system, it's all one piece and welded, like yours... and I am hesitant to just add a resonator, if it is really the hollowed out cat doing the deed..

Then, on top of that, I am a bit concerned about exhaust velocity, or lack thereof, robbing me of low end torque, since my B6 is N/A, I don't need such a big pipe, couple with the fact that I am losing heat through the headers, and thusly even MORE exhaust velocity...

Oh decistions, decisions... wish I could weld exhaust pipe well enough, plus had a bender, or at least a flaring tool... I would just stick a straight pipe on it, and see if it was the cat... but I can't talk any local shops into doing that for me.

My B6 does this at around 3000 rpm. I know it's not likely my exhaust, as it did exactly the same thing when I was driving the 323 donor car to the garage, and that had the stock exhaust on it. My exhaust now is mostly Festiva pipes, with a cheater pipe where the cat belongs, and a Magnaflow muffler out back. Odd.
