i have a 88 L . the front windshield washer doesn't work. the little motor that controls the washer is fine the fuse is fine. i just don't get any sound from when i push the wiper washer control. is it in the control on the wheel? is that a big job to take apart/ please help I'm looking to take a long trip so i need the washer working. thanks. PS seems like its a common repair on the 88, 89

Check the connections for corrosion. Mine were badly corroded. Put 12 volts to the pump to verify it works. Check that you are getting power to the plug and clean the connections.

If it is the wiper module it isn't too bad of a job. Just remove the steering column covers and get a stubby screwdriver and remove the module screws. There is a little clip that holds the stalk in there so be careful and don't force it out. Wouldn't hurt to pick up a haynes repair manual from the library or parts store. It has the wire diagrams in the back and shows the wiper system.
