1988 ford festiva 5speed fluid recomendations... What do you guys use??? The book says atf. but this is a mazda tranny and on any other mazda manual tran they say to use gear oil.... I had the thing apart b/c of a busted syncro. I didn't see any thing that would steer my away from gear oil. I didn't see any needle bearings. in fact all but 2 where sperate race roller bearings, and 2 were sealed bearings. So what do you guys use atf or gear oil, and if gear oil what grade? Thanks!

Why not split the difference and use MTFGlide by:
It's designed for manual transmissions that call for ATF. It has more extreme pressure and anti-wear additives than the average ATF, but it has the correct viscosity for what the manufactor recommends.
Switching to gear lube will reduce your fuel economy (and HP), may or may not reduce wear and if so just slightly, and will definetly not improve cold shifting qualities.www.dantheoilman.com

Synergyn is good, but not the best IMO.
It's also A.) Thicker than what's recommended B.) More expensive than expensive stuff
However, I'm sure it's much better than $1 ATF.www.dantheoilman.com
